Davey, P., 2009: A widespread but decreasing species in lowland Britain, the larva feeding on various herbaceous plants, young shrubs and fruit trees. In Dorset, the moth is local and usually only singletons are observed. The Gothic seems to prefer watery habitats such as rivers and streams, and, "it turns up in coal houses, garden tool sheds and suchlike places." (W Parkinson Curtis manuscript), a set of preferences exhibited also by Old Lady2300. Recorded in 30 (75%) of 40 10k Squares. First Recorded in 1929. Last Recorded in 2019. (Data up to end 2019) |
